Welcome to the
MINIMALLY INVASIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT
◈ These injections target tender points in the muscles that are usually caused by tension and lactic acid build up. Sometimes it feels like a “knot” under your skin. Muscular tension can send pain in unexpected directions and an injection of local anesthetic and/or an anti-inflammatory may be useful in dispersing that tension.
◈ The area affected can be anywhere on your body where you have muscles and tendons. These injections may reduce pain that interferes with normal function. For deeper muscles, like the one affecting the sciatic nerve, it may be necessary to use image-guidance to locate the target muscle.
◈ These injections target the nerves around the base of your skull that can adhere to the surrounding tissue and may even become compressed and irritable, causing headaches.
◈ By injecting a local anesthetic into the area surrounding the nerve, the nerve will be temporarily “numbed” for short-term pain relief and possibly the adhesions may be loosened for long-term pain relief.
◈ Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) targets small sensory nerves on the back of the spine called medial branch nerves which sit upon small joints called facet joints. The facet joints can become inflamed for many reasons, and this causes the medial branch nerve to send a pain signal. By targeting these nerve endings, it is possible to reduce or eliminate neck pain.
◈ Epidural Steroid Injection (ESI) may be indicated if your symptoms are the result of nerves or other structures being crowded or compressed from an abnormality in the spine, like a herniated disc. Often this means you have experienced pain, numbness, or tingling in your arms or legs. You may experience pain in the neck or back as well. By targeting the areas surrounding the nerve roots your symptoms may be reduced.
◈ Joints are formed when two bones come together. Parts of the joint that may be painful due to strains, sprains, and tears include ligaments, tendons, bursa, labrum and meniscus.
◈ When your joint sustains an injury, the joint can become swollen and painful. The structures of the joint include ligaments, tendons, and cartilage which can stretch, become torn, and otherwise inflamed. Bursa can become swollen and inflamed as well, especially if the muscles and tendons around them are tight, injured, or inflamed. The joint space containing the labrum, menisci, and certain ligaments can be targeted with anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medications for symptom management. The ligaments, tendons, and bursa that surround the joint can also be targeted in the same fashion.
